9 March 2026
Dear parents and Carers.
I am writing to inform you that Widgee State School will be open to provide supervision only today Monday 9 March 2026. This will be available for any of our students who may require it.
However, with the effects of the flooding being felt across our community, many of our staff and their families have also been affected by this event. As a result, supervision will be limited. We encourage you to consider your family's safety and circumstances when deciding if your child will attend school tomorrow.
In line with our disaster management protocol, we follow the advice of emergency services. We always act in the interests of the safety of students, staff and the wider community.
It is important that we be alert to current conditions and ready to act quickly if the need arises. We will provide updates and information to families via SMS, email and the school FaceBook page regarding any changes to our school operations.
Student absences
Absences when a school is closed or open for supervision only due to a disaster or emergency situation, will not be recorded on a student's report card.
Transport and access to the school
If you do need to send your child to school, please be mindful that some of our local roads and access to our school may be affected. The school bus is not operating today and communication about tomorrow will go out to families as soon as possible. If your child usually catches a bus or train to school, please check with your local transport service provider to confirm the operation of their services.
Safety assessments
We have conducted the required safety assessments to ensure our school can welcome students and staff back in a supervisory capacity.
Uniforms and other equipment
We appreciate that some families may have lost school uniforms and other equipment. Students can wear casual clothes to school, however they must wear covered shoes and sun-safe clothing.
If you need assistance with replacement uniforms or stationery, please let us know.
